The Protest against Ken-Betwa River linking Project 💧

Hello readers 👋 Along with the student protest, there are at least ten other protests taking place across the country. This one caught my attention because there's something fundamentally wrong with the way it's being casually mentioned in Instagram reels that list all the ongoing protests. It is NOT the Ken-Betwa protest. It is a protest AGAINST THE KEN-BETWA RIVER LINKING PROJECT. People really need to get their grammar right because, in this case, it changes the entire meaning. Calling it the "Ken-Betwa protest" makes it sound as though people are protesting against the rivers themselves, when in reality they are protesting against a government project that seeks to link them. Although the protest has never really made it to the headlines of major news channels or newspapers, for reasons that are obvious, as it apparently seems more important for citizens to know about India's candy exports, the latest Melody melodrama, or the history of jhalmuri than about is...

The foxes' land 🦚 - Not HCU's not the government's.

Hello readers 👋 I know I'm way too late on writing about this issue but I just couldn't get enough time to get involved in this one as i get with the other ones.  But anyways it’s not every day that you see students getting arrested over bulldozers right?!?! but that’s exactly what happened at the University of Hyderabad (HCU) on March30, 2024. What started as a peaceful protest turned into full-blown clashes, with bulldozers entering the 400-acre stretch of land (Kancha Gachibowli) that’s been a point of contention for over two decades. The Telangana government planned to clear the forested area to make space for an IT park, but let’s be honest this wasn’t about just land, it’s about so much more. On March 29, bulldozers started rumbling towards the disputed land, and that’s when the students decided to make their voices heard. Over 50 students were arrested for blocking the bulldozers, and after a few hours, they were released on personal bonds. But that didn’t stop the prot...

The Rupee In Peril ⛃⛂⛁⛀ : Tamil Nadu

Hello readers 👋 I hope you’re doing well. Today, I’ve got a topic that’s both personal and political but not too heavy. I wanted to talk about something that's a bit of a twist, and yet it touches on pride, culture, and, of course, the ever-present linguistic battles in India. Now, I’m sure you’ve heard about the rupee symbol, right?and it can be that you guys might've heard about the furore that's occurring regarding it. That little logo we all see on currency notes, representing India’s pride. Well,  it was designed by D Udaya Kumar(In 2010) , a professor at IIT Guwahati, designed the Indian rupee symbol that was officially adopted by the government on July 15, 2010. So, who is D Udaya Kumar? D Udaya Kumar is no ordinary man. Hailing from where?? that I'll tell you later (I love creating necessary suspense), he was chosen from over 3,000 entries nationwide. The symbol is a unique blend of the capital 'R' from the Roman alphabet and the Devanagari 'Ra'...

The Wilted Leaf 🍃

Hello readers 👋 Today's blog is about a poem that I wrote in the evening of 26th August 2023 on seeing a single wilted leaf on a fleshy green tree beside my window which looked like a butterfly to my poetic mind. It's about civilians having to fight a war, risking their lives. And when the war seems ceaseless, along with their daily struggles, they start accepting the fact that they might not live any further and try and find joy in whatever little that's happening around them. Hoping to die satisfied. Although for us (the wannabe arbitrators), it might sound absurd. I have tried pulling myself out of the 'us' box and seeing it through their eyes and humoring them with the last bits and pieces of freedom that we can offer. I prefer not explaining the poem any further. This poem plays a lot with metaphors in a very queer way, which makes it worthy of making its way out of my notes to my blog. A wilted leaf is never shown as a sign of hope; it's always the fresh ...

Justice for Indian Press - Paranjoy Guha Thakurta

Hello readers 👋 Before my blogs get too personal. I thought of writing on something that is personal yet not so personal.  Paranjoy Guha Thakurta- Journalist , a documentary filmmaker and the author of gas wars and sue the messenger. He has been a guest faculty in IIMs and taught in JNU and university of delhi . And is one of the most veracious reporters around us today (Atleast that's what you feel when you read his books, he fearlessly targets capitalism, prefers staying unknown, could not be bought even by the richest man like many other journalists can be)  Image : Wikipedia   Subject to copyright infringement   It all started when the editor of a portal named the citizen- seema mustafa asked paranjoy to write or rather compile the articles and information about the adani topic. He wrote his first article about PM's visit to australia along with Gautam Adani and Arundhati Bhattacharya (The head of SBI).He also wrote about the rumours that SBI would give a billio...

Pretty Romantic Monsoons

For those who think monsoons are pretty. It feels so good to say monsoons are romantic. Staring outside ur window sitting in the comfort of your house sitting beside your loved ones, sipping in hot beverage ,seeing those drops falling harshly down the road and the soil around might feel awesome , positive and all but putting reality aside no positivity will do you great. 16 people died due to single landslide in irshalwadi let us ask them : Was it romantic to see your loved ones for the last time...seeing a big heavy rock going straight into their heads. Was it romantic to see your family photo collapsing on the floor just like your life did few seconds ago. Was it romantic seeing those walls which ones were your strength fall apart like there weren't any. Was it romantic seeing your entire village wipe in the span of a night...waking up in the morning and seeing you are the only one left amongst those cruel pieces of rocks. Was it romantic putting your children to sleep not having...

Much needed mental vitamins 🖤

Hello readers! Recently so me things gave me chills , things I never thought would happen to someone around me or someone so close to me as my brother. Let me put it this way, we had to pick up my brother from his school 2 hours earlier than his regular school time for around 3 days in a row. The reason as told by his principal was t hat he misses his mother  (he is 12 yrs old). Funny right ? the first day when he came home given this reason it was funny for us as well. But later when we had to pick him up early for three consecutive days...it wasn't funny. He did unusual things like waking up at the midnight and completing his incomplete notebooks or crying about not having friends (because he was a new student), which was strange for us, because he never really cared about finding friends and completing his incomplete notebooks before. On one not very fine day we got a call from the school again asking to pick him up once again because he misses his mother and just wanted ...
